Rekonstrukcja cyfrowa najstarszej stolicy państwa Piastów realizowana była w ramach prac nad filmem “Od Popiela do Piasta” w reżyserii Zdzisława Cozaca. Film stanowi część serii “Tajemnice początków Polski”, a jego premiera w TVP Historia miała miejsce w październiku 2022 r. W realizację filmu jako konsultanci zaangażowani byli najlepsi specjaliści badający archeologię Polski tego okresu.
The first stronghold in Gniezno was built in pagan times, in the first half of the 10th century. During the construction of the fortifications, the natural, rather steep slopes of Mount Lech were used. At the top of the hill, there was still a stone structure, perhaps remembering the beginnings of the Piast dynasty. There were no larger representative buildings in the stronghold, which may suggest the egalitarian nature of the community.
In addition to the Gniezno stronghold, the appearance of one of the Tornow-type strongholds was also reconstructed for the needs of the project. The function of these small, heavily fortified structures is not entirely clear, but it can be assumed that the communities that built them had contact with the state of the first Piast dynasty that was emerging at that time.
